Amitabha Buddha Mantra (Namo Amituofo)Many forget that our main practice is Lord Buddha remembrance. This involves chanting Namo Amituofo. We can chant out loud or we can just say it over and over in our minds and it becomes a meditation. Meditations are to 'guard or protect the mind'. When you are reciting a mantra, your mind has a hard time of thinking of much else, so this is one way to protect the mind. With a single recitation of Namo Amituofo you destroy countless eons of bad karma.

Buddha Amitabha (Jpn. Amida-ji, tib. Öpame) represents Lotus family in the mandala of five Dhyani Buddhas, coresponding with W part of the mandala. His Pure land is Sukhavati (tib. Dewa chen), Pure land of Infinite Bliss. Buddha Amitabha is venerated by all schools of Mahayana schools (Tien-Tai, Zen, Pure land) and Vajrayana schools. Human beings can be reborn in Sukhavati by sincerely (single minded) recitation of His name, particulary at the time of death. In China, Japan and other counrties there are many Amitabha Buddha temples with standing Amitabha, offering helping hand to all devoties. There are mudras (hand gestures) of rebirth in Sukhavati. In Vajrayana Buddhism there is beautiful prayer for rebirth in Dewa chen. Practice of Phowa-transference of consciousness at the time of death has precise instructions about Amitabha Buddha being present on the crown of one´s head. Introducing Druk Amitabha MountainSupport our nuns (www.drukpa-nuns.org)! Druk Amitabha Mountain in Kathmandu, Nepal, was founded by His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa (www.drukpa.org), the spiritual head of the Drukpa Lineage, in 1989. It was gradually and steadily transformed into the home of more than 300 nuns coming from remote places in the Himalayas and is now the main branch of Druk Gawa Khilwa Nunnery. Druk Amitabha Mountain is managed actively by the nuns. This short documentary gives a vivid background of the development of Druk Amitabha Mountain, as well as His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa's commitment in promoting gender equality within the spiritual community of Himalayan Buddhism.
