KKE : Greek Regional Elections 2010
Autumn 2010. Greece is currently ruled by PASOK which means "Socialist Party of Greece. Yet "socialist" is more of an euphimism as this Party has betrayed every Socialist ideal. They are more of a centrist Party that practices a Liberal agenda. They came to power by overthrowing the foremr ruling Liberal PArty which ruled the country by leadin the lower and middle class to extreme poverty. As an excuse for their measures they used the global financial crisis following the collapsse of Leeman brothers. The Centrist Party managed to overthrow them by calling them liars. They claimed that there WAS money to provide for the people and that they would do so once in power. This brought the downfall and collapse of the Liberal Party which split into two smaller ones. Yet the Centrist Party proved equal liars. The promises for a people's socialist agenda were all fake. This devastated the people's faith in the so called "socialist" Party but not in the socialist ideas. The people turned to the only party that had always proved to be loyal to the working class KKE The Communist Party of Greece But the Centrists were not willing to quit without a fight. And so they practiced an old yet ...failed technique. Just like Chamberlain sided with Hitler to create an anti-Soviet alliance in the 30's so did the Centrist and the Fascist PArty in Greece 80 years later. On many occaison other powers joined the alliance. Just like Leon Trotsky encouraged a Western invasion to the Soviet Union so ...

Witness - Witness - Greece: Protesting the protesters
This unusual take on the Greek protests centres on a small group of 'anti-activists' who think the austerity measures undertaken by the government are in fact a good thing for the crisis-ridden Greek economy. We follow Fotis and his friends in their Liberal Party as they mount their own campaign, while around them the masses gather on the streets for the huge protests that regularly rock the capital.

BC Ferries' Sonia - Soon-To-Be Northern Adventure
BC Ferry Sonia arriving at Esquimalt near Victoria from Greece before being converted and renamed Northern Adventure. Taking 2 years to build in Greece and touted as only being 2 years old, based on the launch date, the MV Sonia had only sailed the warmer waters of the Mediterranean and Caribbean before being bought by BCFS to fill the void left by the sinking of the Queen of the North. The powers that be will tell you that the MV Sonia is the replacement for the Queen of the North, while the fact remains that she is destined to actually replace the Queen of Prince Rupert between Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii / the Queen Charlotte Islands. Despite winning a provincial election partly based on the promise of 3 newly built vessels to replace the current ageing northern fleet, the "Liberal" party of BC used the opportunity of the sinking of our former flagship, the Queen of the North, to pawn off this, although not undesirable, former 'party boat' built by a Greek shipyard with a checkered past.

A Bulgarian from Resen, Macedonia 1 Eng Subs
This is a documentary for the great Bulgarian politician Andrey Liapchev, born in Resen, nowdays FYRO Macedonia! Andrey Lyapchev (Bulgarian: Андрей Ляпчев) (30 November 1866 - 6 November 1933) was a Bulgarian political figure and Prime Minister. Lyapchev was born in the Macedonian city of Resen, which was at the time a part of the Ottoman Empire, and played a leading role in Macedonian politics. As a student he campaigned for the unification of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia, before going on to edit Priaporets, the Democratic Party journal. He also became known for his work in the cooperative movement. He attended the Bulgarian Men's High School of Thessaloniki. He entered the Bulgarian parliament in 1908 and before long rose to ministerial rank. In this role he signed the 1908 treaty that established Bulgarian independence as well as the 1918 Armistice. After the First World War he became the first civilian to hold the post of Minister of War. He fell out of favour under Aleksandar Stamboliyski and was imprisoned between 1922 the military coup of 1923. Lyapchev became Prime Minister on 4 January 1926 at the head of a coalition between the Democratic Alliance and the National Liberal Party. Lyapchev generally pursued a more moderate line than his predecessor Aleksandar Tsankov, declaring an amnesty for Communist prisoners (although the Communist Party officially remained banned). He also secured two loans from the League of Nations to help bolster the economy. He was ...

The Liberal Party (Greek: Κόμμα Φιλελευθέρων, IPA: [ˈkoma file̞le̞fˈthe̞ron] literally "Party of Liberals") was one of the major Greek political parties of the early 20th century. It is most famous as the party of Eleftherios Venizelos. Other prominent politicians associated with it include Nikolaos Plastiras, Alexandros Papanastasiou and Georgios Papandreou (founder of the eponymous political dynasty).

The party was defined by its opposition to the monarchy, which became most dramatic during the National Schism, and its aggressive pursuit of the Megali Idea. Generally, it was supported by the middle class, wealthy members of the Greek diaspora and the people of the New Lands (Νέες Χώρες), those regions annexed to Greece through military conquest during the Balkan Wars and World War I.

History

Founded as the Xipoliton ("barefoot") party in Crete (then an autonomous region of the Ottoman Empire), its early leaders were Kostis Mitsotakis (grandfather of Konstantinos Mitsotakis) and Eleftherios Venizelos. After the annexation of Crete by Greece, Venizelos moved to Athens and turned the party into a national one, under the Fileleftheron (liberal) name in 1910. For the following 25 years, the fate of the party would be tied to that of Venizelos. The party was legally disbanded after the failed coup attempt led by Nikolaos Plastiras of 1935, although the organization remained active.

During World War II, a Greek government in exile was formed in Cairo, Egypt, with the assistance of the British. The government was formed almost entirely of prominent Liberals, including Georgios Papandreou and Sophoklis Venizelos, even as King George remained the official head of state. The party was reformed after the war, until it merged into Center Union (Enosi Kentrou) in 1961, under the leadership of Georgios Papandreou.

In 1980, Eleftherios Venizelos' grandson Nikitas founded a new party under the same name that claims to be the continuation of the original party, see Liberal Party (Greece, modern).
