Markets Pop After Italian Bond Auction, Who Is Buying?
This morning, the major stock market indexes in the world are rallying sharply higher. The catalyst for the move up in the market comes as the Italian government staged a successful bond auction in short term debt. Traders that want to skip the news out of Europe can simply follow the action in the US Dollar Index futures (DX-M2). When the dollar falls the markets will inflate and trade higher. Today, the US Dollar Index futures are declining lower by 0.23 cents to $79.78 per contract. Believe it or not, 0.23 cents in the US Dollar index moves markets. Positive results out of Alcoa Inc (NYSE:AA) are also helping the markets this morning. Some equities that will be in play today include iShares MSCI Italy Index (ETF) (NYSEARCA:EWI), iShares MSCI Germany Index Fund (ETF) (NYSEARCA:EWG), CurrencyShares Euro Trust (NYSEARCA:FXE), and the PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bearish (NYSEARCA:UDN).

Markets Are Quiet As European & Asian Holidays Take Place
This morning, the S&P 500 Index e-mini futures are trading higher by 1.00 point to 1394.50 per contract. The major market indexes seem to be very quiet today as most European and Asian markets were closed to start the month of May. The FTSE 100 (England) is one of the only markets open for trading today in Europe. The FTSE 100 is trading higher by 0.38 percent today. Last night, the Nikkei 222 finished sharply lower by 1.78 percent as it was one of the few Asian stock indexes that was open for trading. This tells us that the Japanese ADR's could be under some pressure today especially if the US markets are weak. Traders should watch for equities such as iShares MSCI Italy Index (ETF) (NYSEARCA:EWI), Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE), and Canon Inc. (ADR) (NYSE:CAJ) to be in play today.

News Update: Morgan Stanley Initiated Coverage Of MSCI Inc With OW Rating
Morgan Stanley analysts are initiating coverage of MSCI Inc. (NYSE:MXB) with an overweight rating and $38 price target for 2011. Analysts Suzanne Stein, Vance Edelson and Toni Kaplan said, "This is the first time we are rating MXB OW, and it is one of our top picks in our business services coverage universe. We base our OW rating on the increased potential for scalability following the RISK merger, reduced need for further significant investment in analytics (which was a major concern of ours when we initiated in December), stabilization of retention rates and an attractive valuation. At its current price of $29.42, or 29% below our price target, we believe this is a good entry point for investors." The bank sees fiscal 2010 EPS of $0.94, vs. consensus estimates of $1.30 per share, and fiscal 2011 EPS of $1.18, vs. consensus estimates of $1.56 per share.

Europe Financial Crises طرح اقتصاد ریاضتی در اروپا
Iran News اخبار ایران Persia 31 Dec 2011 Treasuries Gain for Third Day on Bets Europe Crisis to Damp Global Growth Q By Daniel Kruger Treasuries rose for a third day, pushing benchmark 10-year note yields to within a quarter- percentage point of a record low, on concern Europe's debt crisis will curb global growth. Thirty-year bond yields reached a one-week low as the euro fell to the weakest level in 15 months versus the dollar while Italian bond yields advanced. Italy sold less than its maximum target at a debt auction, highlighting funding problems in the region. Treasuries fell earlier as data signaled the US economy is strengthening. "The reason yields are this low is largely because of Europe," said Anthony Cronin, a trader at Societe Generale SA in New York, one of the 21 primary dealers that trade with the Federal Reserve. "The US economy seems to be fine, but the big uncertainty looking ahead is if the situation over there deteriorates." Ten-year note yields decreased two basis points, or 0.02 percentage point, to 1.90 percent at 5 pm New York time, according to Bloomberg Bond Trader prices. They advanced earlier to 1.94 percent. The 2 percent securities maturing in November 2021 rose 5/32, or $1.56 per $1000 face amount, to 100 29/32. The yields dropped to a record low 1.67 percent on Sept. 23. Thirty-year bond (USGG30YR) yields fell two basis points to 2.90 percent after rising earlier as much as two basis points to 2.94 percent. They touched 2.89 percent, the ...

History

In 1968, The Capital International Indices are published, the first set of global stock market indices for non-U.S. markets. In 1986, Morgan Stanley obtains from Capital exclusive rights to license the indices. The indices are branded Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI). In 2004, MSCI acquired Barra, Inc., to form MSCI Barra. The company is headquartered in New York City, with operations in Boston, Chicago, Stamford, Cape Town, Shanghai, Monterrey, Geneva, London, Budapest, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Philippines, Paris, Tokyo, São Paulo, Dubai, Sydney, Frankfurt, Milan, Berkeley, San Francisco, and Norman.

The MSCI global equity indices have been calculated since 1969. The company's most known indices include MSCI World and MSCI EAFE.[4] MSCI indices are widely used as the benchmark indices by which the performance of global equity portfolios are measured. They are also used as the basis of passive investment products like index funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Morgan Stanley sponsored the first iShares ETFs, known at launch as WEBS, which are designed to track various MSCI indices.[5]

In mid-2007, parent company Morgan Stanley announced plans to divest from, and potentially spin-off, MSCI.[6] This was followed by an initial public offering of a minority of stock in November 2007. The divestment was completed in 2009.[7]

On June 1, 2010, MSCI formally acquired RiskMetrics Group, Inc.[8]

On July 15, 2010, MSCI acquired Measurisk.[9]
